NOAA's newest satellite is showing us how stunning Earth's ocean truly is. Launched in late June and reaching geostationary orbit on July 7th, NOAA recently released the first images from the GOES-19 satellite. This satellite orbits 22,236 miles (35,785 km) above the equator at the same speed the Earth rotates, which allows it to track weather conditions in real time, such as wildfires, dust storms, volcanic eruptions, and hurricanes.
